Lawrence Mitchell

Lawrence E. Mitchell is an author and the John Theodore Fey Research Professor of Law and George Washington University. He became a law professor after six years of corporate practice in New York. His teaching and scholarly interests include corporate law and finance, and jurisprudence.

 

Professor Mitchell has published numerous law review articles on a variety of topics. He is the editor of Progressive Corporate Law (1995), and co-authored the casebook, “Corporate Finance and Governance,” now in its third edition, and “Corporations: A Contemporary Approach.”

 

He has written two books: “Stacked Deck: A Story of Selfishness in America” (Temple University Press 1998) and “Corporate Irresponsibility: America’s Newest Export” (Yale University Press 2001, also available in German, French and Japanese). Professor Mitchell recently has done substantial work using economic sociology to address corporate law issues, and currently is at work on his next book, a history of the development of American corporate capitalism from the late nineteenth century to 1960. He is director of the Sloan Program for the Study of Business in Society and the International Institute for Corporate Governance and Accountability.
