Ethan S. Burger is a Scholar-in-Residence at American University’s School of International Service (SIS) and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at the Washington College of Law (WCL), and serves as an advisor to AU’s Transnational Crime and Corruption Center. He has practiced law for 14 years. His principal academic interests include judicial corruption, politics of the Soviet Union’s successor states (in particular, Belarus), international economic crime (including money laundering), business and legal ethics, and corporate governance, topics about which he has numerous publications. He has taught Comparative Corporate Governance (Spring 2003 and Spring 2004), International Practice and Ethical Dilemmas (Spring 2005), and Conflict and Resolution of Problems in Post-Soviet Russia (Spring 2002).  He has made presentations at many conferences, including those of the International Monetary Fund, the Kennan Institute, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, and the World Bank. He has also served as an international election observer. Burger has a B.A. from Harvard University (Magna cum laude, 1981) and a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center (Cum Laude, 1989).
